If you’re a small business looking to get more bookings or sales, you’re likely to have a LOT of prospective customers ready to nudge towards a sale.
So what are you doing to remind them you exist? Check this out.
Every quarter, I get sent an envelope with free socks.
Big deal, I hear you say.
It’s from a clothing company I bought yoga clothes from once for a present.
When we get the envelope, my daughter and I haggle over the socks. We love them!
They’re made from bamboo, super soft and silky. Their wearability is a gentle reminder of the quality of the clothing. Wearing the socks reinforces this is a company I like.
I trust them. Their clothing is durable and a pleasure to touch.
And vitally, they don’t drop off my radar. As I regularly wear their lead magnet, I grow increasingly warm towards the business.

Would I buy from them again?
OK, I’ve not yet made a return purchase… but would I? Oh yes.
My daughter and I thumbed through their brochure just last night.
Not only do I like the clothing, the accompanying catalogue has a hefty 15% off discount code.
This – by the way – is a GREAT discount.
If you’re going to give money off, make sure it’s a good percentage.
5% just doesn’t cut it, 10% is getting there. You need to make a warm lead feels valued.
What reminds your audience of your USPs?
In the package, I also get a warm, friendly letter from the founder of BAM…
“If you know us, you know we’re serious about softness…”
He’s very aware of the value of his free socks. He knows they remind people of the clothes’ range’s USPs; ‘nature-based’, ‘breathable’ and ‘famously soft’.
Every sale averages 8 or more touch points.
ChatGpt says that a customer will average 8-10 interactions with a company before making a sale.
This data varies widely, but the point is you need to prepare MULTIPLE opportunities for someone to engage with you.
This might include seeing social media posts, viewing a social or Google ad a couple of times, visiting their website and maybe adding to cart.
• About 73% of leads aren’t ready to buy on first interaction
• Across industries, only around 2.3-2.9% convert immediately
• But when you nurture the warm ones, nearly half end up spending more
There are thousands of businesses fighting for your customer’s attention. On social media, in print, on websites, on TV.
But a nudge like a freebie which showcases your business can get instant cut through.
What are your Socks?
You don’t need to be an ecomm business to have a lead magnet.
So, have a think. What could be the valuable freebie that gets you back on the radar of potential customers?
What can showcase the quality, friendliness and trust of your organisation?
How can you reach out to existing customers who are on a list, or those that haven’t bought yet?
Remember, if your business offers services, the lead magnet doesn’t have to be physical. It could be a freebie in an email.
But it does need to be of value to your audience.
It needs to nudge that potential customer that you are worth checking out again.
Got it?
Now package up your lead magnet for your next customer to dip their feet into. Go, sock it to them 😉
